WSQ Prepare Agemono is a 2 day (or 16 hours) long training programme, upon completion of which, participants will have the basic knowledge and application skills of agemono preparation and be able to apply them to the workplace. Topics include preparing Kaki-Age, Ichiban Dashi, Kara-Age, Koromo-Age, Tori Tatsuta-Age.

In collaboration with Tsuji Culinary Institute, the top ranking culinary school in Japan, At-Sunrice presents Japanese Cuisine Master, Masakatsu Takemoto and the Tsuji culinary team, to offer an intensive, hands-on Prepare Agemono course. Over 2 days, you will acquire the art and craft of making traditional Japanese fried foods, using Japanese equipment and kitchenware.

The programme will cover a range of topics including:

  • Prepare Tempura-Goromo

  • Prepare Ten-Dashi

  • Prepare Kaki-Age

  • Prepare Kara-Age

  • Prepare Oyako-Don 

Suitable for: 

  • Adult learners who would like to acquire basic knowledge and application skills in preparing traditional Japanese fried foods and their accompaniments.

  • F&B professionals who want to pursue continuous education and upgrade their skills and knowledge.

This modular programme introduces candidates to the knowledge and applications of agemono, in order to apply them to the workplace. Topics of study include preparing various batters, dipping sauces, delicately fried seafood and chicken, as well as the purpose and characteristics of Japanese foods, including their names, indicators of quality and a whole host of essential and professional tips, techniques and serving styles.

WSQ Prepare Agemono will be covered over 2 days (12 hours) of training and assessment, aiming to broaden the participants knowledge and skills through:

  • Demonstrations

  • Hands-on cooking

  • Discussions

 Upon the successful completion of the training and passing the assessment for the programme:

  • The candidates will receive a Statement of Attainment for the WSQ Competency Unit “Prepare Agemono (FSS-FBP-2009-1.1)”

  • The SOA will be issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG)

SkillsFuture Credit (SFC)

  • Basic culinary experience in Japanese cuisine preferred.

    - Black Pants (No jeans, leggings, jogging or cargo pants)
    - Black covered shoes (No slippers, high heels or sports shoes)
    - As per the Academy's grooming policy, hair / head accessories such as caps, hats or any other headgears are not allowed
  • Failure to comply to grooming standards will result in non-participation



  • Food items from all Practical classes shall be consumed in the Academy, either during lunch or dinner time.
  • For food safety purposes, food items are not allowed to be taken home for consumption.

6. Training Quality and Outcomes Measurement Survey (TRAQOM) by SkillsFuture Singapore

SSG will conduct the two post-course evaluation surveys in the following manner:

  • The Quality Survey will be conducted after the course end date through an electronic survey. The survey will be emailed to the trainee through SSG’s central survey system.
  • The Outcomes Survey will be administered once a year through a contracted vendor. The survey will be sent to shortlisted trainees who have completed their full qualification course(s) or CU(s).
  • Trainee is to provide your personal email and phone number for SSG to conduct the surveys.
  • All corporate companies registering their staff for training are to avoid using centralized corporate email and have to use their staff email and phone number for SSG to conduct the surveys.
