Dubai’s billion dollar themed park resort Atlantis The Palm flies in to Singapore to hire Singapore culinary graduates

23 June 2008, Singapore – More than a hundred culinary graduates and seniors have been scheduled for back to back job interviews at Singapore’s only culinary career fair TalentMatch, organized by At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy on Wednesday 25 June 2008 at Fort Canning Centre.
This comes at a time when more than 10 million chefs and food service professionals around the world would not satisfy a global shortage of qualified graduates to enter the chef profession. Being no exception, Singapore is expected to have job openings for 3,000 chefs and kitchen staff with the onset of the two IRs in 2010.
TalentMatch is part of the At-Sunrice graduate placement initiative. Last year’s graduating cohort achieved 100% graduate placements, with two of its graduates hired by New York’s celebrity chef Daniel Boulud’s group of restaurants. 25 year old Aaron Goh, who has two diplomas – one from At-Sunrice and the other from a local polytechnic, is the first Singaporean employed under the award-winning group. His classmate 27 year old Filipino Caesar Augustin Sibayan joined him a few months after. Many of their fellow graduates are pursuing their global chef career paths in other countries like Australia, China, Dubai and Singapore. Among the jobs being offered were four and five star properties as well as fine dining restaurants the likes of Iggy’s and Le Saint Julien Restaurant.
TalentMatch aims to shape tomorrow’s culinary landscape by connecting five star hotels, fine dining restaurants, global food services and the food media to a growing pool of qualified and trained aspiring global chefs.
“The culinary art is fast growing as a career of choice,” says the academy’s Chief Executive Officer French Masterchef Christophe Megel. “It is creative, sustainable and growing reputably over the years. When the IRs (integrated resorts) make their debut in 2010, Singapore’s hospitality, F&B and culinary scenes will be catapulted onto the international platform, placing the onus on us to ensure that this promise is delivered and aligned to international standards.”
Atlantis The Palm’s Vice President of Culinary Mark Patten says, “Singapore graduates are among the best in the world. While I was working in Singapore, I had many At-Sunrice student apprentices working in my kitchen. Now that they are graduating, I can’t wait to offer them the opportunity to work in Atlantis The Palm. With 17 restaurants including 6 by celebrity chefs, Atlantis has numerous catering facilities, serving thousands of guests daily.“
All 17 booths for TalentMatch have been filled. Participating properties this year include The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore, The Fairmont Singapore, Shangri La Hotel Singapore, Sentosa Leisure Group and global food service operator Apex Pal Pte Ltd. Please refer to the factsheet for the full list.
86 At-Sunrice graduates and future graduates will be available for job interviews. They will be joined by 24 American students from Johnson & Wales University who are in Singapore for a month to learn about Asian and Singapore cuisine. These students are seniors getting their Bachelor degree in Culinary Arts and will be entering the job market by May 2009.
